  • 2011-11-24  I'm a new poster, but I did not see anything about the Mac Audacity 1.3.11 installers for the lame lib or the new aac compression item. They 'self-install' to a foreign location which I cannot find. I'm guessing that it is a failed attempt. Why it is not setup as a simple unpackage which can be stored at the user's chosen location seems odd to me.

Audacity Installation

Windows Installation

  • Go to http://www.audacityteam.org/download/ and select Windows.
  • Left-click on the installer file. Right-clicking and saving the file will not work.
  • Follow Setup Wizard instructions to complete the installation.
  • Go to http://lame.buanzo.org/ and click the 'Windows Downloads' link.
  • Left-click the installation package.
  • Follow Setup Wizard to install (you can ignore any warnings that the 'publisher could not be verified').
  • Do not change the default install destination.
Step 3: Exporting Audio
  • Launch Audacity.
  • Click the red circle to record any audio you wish to save as an MP3 file, then click the tan 'stop' button.
  • Go to File>Export Audio...
  • Change the file type to MP3.
  • Export.
    • If you receive an error 'Audacity needs the file libmp3lame.dylib to crete MP3s', select the location of the LAME file on your computer and press OK.

  • Left-click the .dmg file.
  • Double click the downloaded file.
  • When prompted, drag the Audacity.app icon to the Applications shortcut.
